Claire has over 20 years of experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist, Rehabilitation Adviser and Case Manager in hospitals, schools, community clinics and residential settings in the UK and abroad.

She graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1992 with a BSc in Speech and Language Pathology and started her career as a Speech and Language Therapist in a large hospital on the south coast of England. She was part of a multidisciplinary team working with patients who had cancer of the head and neck, ENT trauma, strokes, and brain injury. Also during this time she worked in community clinics with children who had Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Cleft Palate, Autism and Language Delay.

Claire then accepted a volunteer role at a hospital in Pokhara Nepal. Here she assisted an English ENT surgeon with ear nose and throat operations, carried out audiology assessments and distributed hearing aids. In conjunction with an English Physiotherapist, she successfully established a community service for children with cerebral Palsy.

Claire then travelled to Australia to work as a Senior Speech and Language Therapist in a residential centre for young adults with a traumatic brain injury. Claire worked with individuals and in groups to achieve the best expressive and receptive communication outcomes for the injured person.

She developed and delivered a communication and dysphagia training program, securing funding for over four hundred staff members to attend. Claire also worked with people with Huntington’s chorea, sourcing appropriate augmentative communication devices and counselling family members. During this time she acted as a consultant to a pioneering new government funded project creating a living village for people with early onset Dementia. She was instrumental in introducing Validation Therapy to the village which staff and family members reported was a life changing experience.

Claire then accepted a position as the Team Manager for Rehabilitation Services at Australia’s largest insurance company.  Claire was responsible for setting up service level agreements and quality standards documents with rehabilitation companies, reviewing monthly statistical reports and advised on corrective action where necessary.

Claire then returned to the UK and worked for four years at a school for children with cerebral Palsy, autism and brain injury. Most recently she has worked as a Rehabilitation Adviser with the Major Trauma Team at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where she assessed children with catastrophic injuries and subsequently wrote Pre Immediate Needs Assessment Reports for Case Managers and Legal Representatives.
